How to Select the Perfect Smoke Detector
Smoke detector is an important device that helps you to prevent loss
of persons or property due to fire accidents. Smoke detectors are
preferred as ideal equipment because you can get away from the problem
as soon as there is an abnormal smoke,
thereby giving you the optimum
time and opportunity from the aftermaths of a fire accident. Hard
wired smoke detector and home smoke detector are the prominent ones
used in the current scenario.
What are Smoke Detectors? Where should they be Installed?
Smoke detectors help in the functioning of fire alarms. Smoke detectors
will indicate the possibilities or the occurrence of smoke as the
case may be. Based on the intimation received from smoke deduct or
smoke alarm will produce the loud noise so that necessary precautionary
arrangements can be made soon to escape from the fire accident and
thereby stay protected from the touch.
Types of Smoke Detectors
There are two main classifications of smoke detectors. They are ionization
chamber smoke detectors and photo electric smoke detectors.
Optical Detectors
This is also known as optimal smoke detector. This machine will comprise
of a light source, lens and other photoelectric elements. This works
on a particular principle of light. As per this principle the light
will travel through the detector whether or not there is a smoke.
But when there is a smoke will automatically disperse the light particles
and make it to fall before the beam. This will be deducted by the
sensor. As soon as the quantity increases the alarm will start functioning.
Ionization Chamber Smoke Detectors
These types of detectors are economically viable when compared with
the optimal detectors. However they are not environment friendly.
The advantage of this type of detector is that it can find out minute
smoke particles. It consists of radio active americium -241 which
acts as a source for alpha radiation. If smoke absorbs the alpha particles
it automatically disturbs ionization. As a result of this the electricity
circulation is disturbed and therefore the alarm is switched on due
to the sudden increase in the temperature of air.
Should home Smoke Detectors be Interconnected?
It is always advisable to interconnect smoke detectors. If smoke detectors
are interconnected the alarm that rings in one detector will automatically
instigate the alarms in the other detectors to ring. If you are at
one end of a house and the accident happens at the other end of a
house one alarm may not give the desired result. As a result you won’t
be able to save your property or loved ones if the fire outbreak clamors
into a big accident within no time.
