Best Tips For Making Your Home/Office Fire Proof

You never know when a fire can start in your house. A forgotten candle, a spark from electrical equipment, or a thunderstorm can all be reasons why your home could end up in flames.
The combination of a spark, oxygen something that can burn can cause the biggest fires. It is always best to anticipate problems and to think ahead. With a few easy procedures it is possible to significantly reduce the risk of a fire in your home. Something as simple as a fire proof door or fireproof wood doors in your home will help to keep you and your family safe.

How Should You Make Your Home Fire Proof?

With the following tips and suggestions you should be able to fire proof your home. Completely fireproof houses do not exist unfortunately but with these tips you should be able to make your home a lot less prone to fires.
Fire Extinguishers
It is a good idea to purchase a multipurpose chemical fire extinguisher and have one available on every floor in the home. Also consider placing one in the basement, one near your furnace and one by the water heater. Every member of the family should know where the extinguisher is and how to use it. Check the extinguisher monthly for leaks.
Smoke Alarms
Smoke alarms are necessary to warn you before a fire spread throughout the home. Fire and smoke detectors should be installed on every floor and preferably in every room. Make sure to place the detectors so that you will be able to hear them go off. Keep spare batteries in the house and change the batteries twice every year to make sure that the device is never without power.
Reduce Fuel Sources
If you have a garden or if your house is surrounded by foliage, make sure to remove dead foliage and dry twigs as this type of material only needs a tiny spark to start a fire. Keep any decking free from dry foliage and store firewood at least 30 feet away from your home. Propane tanks need to be kept at least 10 feet away from the home.
Avoid Clutter
Keep clutter to a minimum in and around your home. Storing old paper boxes, magazines and materials such as linen tidied away in the home. A messy home can be hazardous if a fire breaks out and you need to find your way out of the house in the dark.
Use Fire-Resistant Materials
Use fire resistant materials if you are changing anything in your home. Asphalt-fiberglass or masonry roofing are known for their fire resistant properties and will stop a possible fire from spreading too fast. Doors with fireproof glass and a fire proof pocket door in your home will help reduce the risk of fire spreading through your home quickly.
Check Heating Appliances
Get a heating professional to check all your heating appliances, whether it is a stove, grill, dryer, or furnace. These check-ups should preferably be done every year. Chimneys and fireplaces should be cleaned and checked every year too.
