Best Fire Escape Systems
The following are some of the best fire escape systems:
Window Chute
A typical window chute is a device that is placed on one side of the
window. After pressing a mechanism,
the chute is deployed downward.
Once it has reached the floor, the user goes through it, falling slowly
and safely to the ground. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive.
You may find them at US$ 10,000 and up.
As you can see, this option can be attractive for determined companies
who want a system that can quickly evacuate people from a fire.
Unfortunately, its cost makes it impractical for most households.
Rubber Evacuation Shaft
This is proposed fire evacuation system that hasn’t reached
the market yet. Although it works similarly to a window chute, its
main difference is that it could be used for tall buildings like skyscrapers.
People would go through it and would be slowed down by layers of rubber
or foam material. The main problem is the material that is required
for building it: the polymers should be strong enough to support tens
of people going through it. So, until some company interests in it
and decides to test its practicality, these kinds of fire escape slide
systems will remain in the realm of fiction.

Structurally Hardened Elevators
Since 9/11, the elevator industry has questioned itself about using
elevators for evacuating people during fires. Although there is a
lot of pending research on this matter, the first steps have been
taken. The good thing is that all seems to point that we will have
structurally hardened elevators in the future.
Fire Safety Egress Windows
This mechanical device is an apparatus that let’s people open
their windows quickly. They only need to pull a cord and the machine
will do the rest. It’s quite useful for children and elder people
who don’t have the strength or dexterity to open a window, especially
during a fire.
As you can see, several types of systems have been developed during
our history to counteract the effects of uncontrollable fire. And
who knows what kind of apparatus we will see in the future. Maybe
we will finally develop the rubber evacuation shaft, letting us
escape quickly from a fire hundreds of meters above the ground.
Or elevators will become so effective avoiding fire that we will
be able to use them safely.
For the moment, we can feel relatively safe knowing that we have
egress windows, fire escape chute systems or the best fire escape
ladders that can be bought in the market.
