Fire Alarm Horns/Strobes - They Provide the Timely Indication of a Hazardous Situation
A fire alarm strobe
protects business properties, houses and people and a fire horn is
tested regularly to make sure that it is operational.
Fire horns are usually connected to a fire alarm panel which will
automatically notify the police or fire emergency services if a
problem is detected in the building. Buildings protected by fire
horns will have smoke detectors or heat and fire detectors fitted
in areas of the property. These horns can also be used to protect
a property from crime and burglary.
A home or business building fire alarm system is most often part
of a total security system possibly offering burglary protection
in addition to fire protection. Typically such a system supervises
doors, windows, and watches spaces in the home for break-ins and
may provide monitoring services by dialling your telephone to report
fires or intrusion to a security office, after which the office
will notify the local police or fire department.
Features of Fire Alarm Horns
The horns are usually not placed indoors, but are meant for outdoor
use because of the loud volume that these horns produce. The horns
are too loud to use indoors and could potentially cause hearing problems
when used indoors. There are other types of fire alarm systems and
horns that are suitable for indoor use if needed.
Most outdoor horns can produce more than 115 dB. Therefor it
can alert bystanders and witnesses of a certain situation as well
as the people who are located outside a certain building. An outdoor
horn will produce enough sound to alert an area in its entirety
and is especially effective in areas where fires could spread quickly.
Can a Horn Be Installed Indoors?
A horn can only be installed indoors when certain regulations are
met. It is against ADA and NFPA standards to have a horn without a
strobe installed indoors. The strobe needs to be placed either on
the device or located within a few feet of the device. Fire system
strobes help to alert people in the area of a possible fire should
they be unable to hear the alarm go off.
