Functions of Fire Alarm Control Panel
There are different functions on fire alarm control panel. Some of
which are:
Drill
Panels that come with this function can set off a fire drill alarm
that will not be transmitted to a fire department or fire monitoring
center. Usually the emergency services will be notified of the fact
that a fire drill is taking place.
System Reset
This function will reset the fire alarm panel after the alarm has
gone off. Every device connected to the system is reset and this function
can for example be used when a smoke detector alarm goes off without
reason.
Acknowledge
This function must be used when the alarm device shows signs of a
problem in the building. Until the abnormality is acknowledged the
alarm will not stop. When this function on the panel is activated
this means that emergency services are aware of the alarm. Acknowledging
the alarm will silence the device.

Depending on the setup of the system, this function will silence the
system's notification functions completely, or will silence just the
audible alarm. Lights in the building connected to the alarm system
will continue to flash and this type of alarm makes it easier for
emergency service staff in the building to communicate.
Alarm (Red LED)
This function (indicated by a red light on the panel) lights up when
there is a fire or smoke alarm in the building. The building has to
be evacuated and the fire alarm panel will indicate the source and
area of the fire.
Fire Alarm Indicators
Fire alarm panels have a number of LED lights that correspond with
a certain type of emergency or function. It is important to be aware
of the different functions and colors so that you are able to act
quickly in case of an emergency. The color correspondences are:
Alarm; a red LED light shows on the alarm panel.
Trouble indication; a yellow LED light shows.
Drill; a red LED light shows on the panel, indicating that a fire
drill is being carried out.
AC Power and green light shows on the panel, indication that the
fire alarm panel is operational.
Applications of Fire Alarm Panels
The loops connected with fire alarm panels can be set up so that the
device will also alert you in case of other emergencies such as:
Burglary in a certain part of the building.
Theft.
Machine failure in a specific part of a building.
Malfunctioning of equipment in the building.
A fire alarm control panel makes it much easier to keep a property
safe from fire but also from crime. Fire alarm panel repair will always
have to be carried out by certified repair companies and must never
be carried out by inexperienced members of staff. The safety of people
and buildings depends on it. Single zone fire alarm panels are worth
investing in.
